AFFiNE is a local-first workspace that combines block-based docs, an infinite whiteboard canvas, and databases — an open-source alternative to Notion and Miro. Pages flip between document and edgeless (canvas) modes, and AFFiNE AI helps draft, summarize, and turn outlines into mind maps and slides. It runs on web, desktop, and mobile, with self-hosting available via Docker.

Pros & cons

  • Open-source (MIT editor), self-hostable
  • Docs + whiteboard + DB in one canvas
  • Local-first, offline-capable
  • Desktop, web, and mobile apps
  • Self-host caps at 3 users without cloud
  • Databases less mature than Notion's
  • AI UI rough; lacks find-and-replace

    Notion AI

    Notion Labs

AI teammate inside Notion: writing, workspace Q&A, agents, and meeting notes.

Notion AI is the assistant built into the Notion workspace, drafting and editing content, answering questions across your pages and connected apps, taking AI meeting notes, and running custom agents on triggers or schedules. Enterprise Search reaches into Slack, Google Drive, and GitHub, and the Notion Agent can complete multi-step tasks with workspace context.

    Worth knowing

Notion retired the standalone AI add-on in May 2025, folding AI into its Business and Enterprise plans instead.

    Tana

    Tana

Agentic meeting platform where AI agents do the work during the call.

Tana is a meeting workspace with native video calling, real-time transcription, and AI agents that act during the call — generating artifacts like PRs, tickets, and storyboards rather than only summarizing afterward. A persistent context graph remembers people, projects, and decisions across meetings, and AI changes go through a human-approval proposal step. It evolved from Tana's earlier supertag-based note app.

    Worth knowing

Pivoted from its supertag knowledge-graph note app — which drew a 160K waitlist and $25M in 2025 — to an agentic meeting platform.

Its AI assistant transcribes voice notes, drafts outlines, surfaces takeaways, and improves writing, with Google Calendar and Outlook integration plus web and Kindle clipping.

    Worth knowing

Built by Alex MacCaw, founder of Clearbit; deliberately bootstrapped and profitable, taking no growth-forcing VC money.
